The Decorating Continues! More Easter and Now Flowers!

Over the last week the ground and skies have erupted with blooms and bees.

It is magical to watch how much changes in just a day around here.

The bleeding hearts have started to flower, as the fruit trees and daffodils led the way.

I am sleeping with the windows open and watching the birds, bunnies, and bugs start their spring scurry into house making, food catching, and merry making.

Oh, I want the days to slow down just a little bit now so I don't miss a bud or song or creature.

The short-lived but OH! so worth it, beautiful flowering plum trees.

The Easter basket just purchased at New Oxford Show, last weekend.
This felt bunny is probably only 2 decades old, but he packs a big punch of charm.

The roosters, both 3 years apart from the same vendor at the New Oxford Show.
David Little Antiques. He also sold me the Easter baskets.
A great find and only $3.00 each. I love that show for so many reasons.

2 tiny peep bubble makers. One of my absolute all time favorite Easter finds!

Some of my "best" Putz sheep. Alongside some great candy containers.

Glass and paper mache candy containers. In the background is my lamb pull toy. She also "baah's."
A gift from my husband for Christmas a few years back.

Daffodils from the garden. One of the first harbingers of spring

My Easter present from my mom. Her make-shift Easter card, a napkin, I love it!

The inside of my Easter basket. A fabulous paper mache egg.
With ducklings being pulled in a wagon by grasshoppers.

Inside my great egg is a fantastic early PA wallpaper box with a bird on it.
I can't believe my mom parted with this box. It is an amazing antique. I LOVE IT! Thanks Mom!

Also in my Easter basket, 4 advertising cards. Most with dogs.
She knows my favorites are the ones with dogs.

I am mad over the speckles this year. the candy, the meringues, the eggs.
Just can't get enough speckles and pastels right now.

My newest candy container. A perfect pink pastel egg and a rabbit playing a cello.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday full of love, good friends, and some children to color and hide eggs for!

HAPPY EASTER!!

Prepping for Peepers and Bunnies

As the sun beams down on a world starting to wake, and the first flowers speckle the ground with dabs of color, I am starting to clean the sills, and sprinkle my home with pops of pastels.

And best of all the peepers have just started to sing their songs of summers eventual arrival.

We were newleyweds when we first started looking for our home together. I told my husband that for me our house had to have three non-negotiable things;
1. Be an old stone house,
2. Have a long private driveway to keep our pets safe from the road, and
3. Have Peepers!

For those of you who don't know what peepers they are, they are the frogs who have been hibernating all winter in the depths of the marshy, swampy, wetlands. They wake up in early March, as soon as the weather has been warm enough to melt the snow, start to green up the grass, and unthaw the ground. They sing a little "peep-peep" tune to wake each other up and get ready for the spring frog renewal rituals.

Their sond is my favorite sound in the whole world!
I will stop on the side of the road if I find a dense spot, and close my eyes and let their song drown me in their cacophonous serenade.

This is also my favorite time of year.
Our bleeding hearts are just beginning to throw their crimson arms to the skies, and the buds are popping up overnight on every outstretched limb and arm on the landscape.

Ahh, the arrival of another season of new life!

My mom's Easter basket nest.

Favorite christmas find. baby shoes with cats. So perfect for me!

Old ceramic green bowl with red-sugar covered almonds. The red tint comes from grapefruit juice wcich gives the almonds a very sweet taste. (Bowl half empty care of pilfering husband.)

Favorite Easter milk glass egg.

Wax standing bunny under old purpled cloche glass.

Old plaster chick nestled in a candy container of yellow frosted almonds

New pink ceramic planter, old paper mache duckling, and new pink milk glass cake stand.

Milk glass serving dish. Rabbit with pink ears.

Baby spoons in green bunny planter. A scotty dog in celluloid, and a silver spoon with two rabbits.

An Easter cake made by one of our immensely talented staff.  This is the protype for one she is making as a raffle to raise money for our pets who are looking for their own forever home. This cake is a chocolate fudge cake with chocolate genache filling and a fondant icing. This is definately the most beautiful cake I have ever seen. I told the entire staff that I had two wedding cakes and together they weren't half as pretty as this one is. And to eat it is pure BLISS!. I had a piece everyday last week. It was worth every single calorie! I am thinking of reasons to order them for any future I occassion I can.

Here is my mom's Easter basket. Antique wire basket, sheet moss, starfish, colored gourds, a nest, polished stone speckled edds and a tiny yellow cast iron bird. All it needs is a bright bow.
