June 2013

There has been a flurry of activity around here..

We are putting the little front porch on the log cabin..just big enough for a dog bed so they can snoop out the front gate and be out of the weather

And we demolished the old stone house kitchen.

And working on opening up a doorway between the pub (now log cabin basement) and the wine cellar (now servants quarters basement)

Cutting stones for the archway of the jailhouse door.
None of the basements of the three structures communicate. In order to allow access without having three interior stairways, we knocked out a small section of the foundation between the servants quarters (middle section) and the basement of the log cabin.

The log cabin basement, shown below was built three years ago. It took about a year to complete.

The horizontal cement line is where we had to excavate to be able to have a full basement. The stone behind the stairs is the original foundation for the servants quarters. It has been re-pointed.

The log cabin basement will become the bar. I'm calling it a 'circa 1940's English nautical pub'.
